At home workouts like P90X, Insanity and Turbo Fire transformed my life. I struggled to lose the baby weight after our first baby, and I was looking for a fitness program to help me. It was important for me to gain muscle as well as lose weight. I started using Beachbody DVDs in 2010. I loved the DVDs, and now that streaming services are available through Beachbody on Demand, the improvement in available workout options has been incredible.

Before I jump into the details of this review, I’d like to say that Beachbody on Demand is different from other online workouts because you receive the assistance and guidance of a real person keeping you accountable and motivated throughout your journey. This is a game changer. I tried at home workouts on my own before trying Beachbody at home workouts, and I was never able to obtain as much success as I did once I was provided with a coach and a community of people to keep me on track. I’ll share more about my thoughts and experience on another post.

HISTORY OF BEACHBODY

Carl Daikeler and Jon Congdon founded Beachbody in 1998 in Santa Monica, CA. Daikeler was in infomercials for Lifeline Gym and :08 Minute Abs in the 1990’s. The founders received some money from angel investing, developed a series of workout videos and bought the Beachbody website.

I personally met Carl Daikeler, and I can honestly say that he is one of the most passionate guys I have ever met. Carl has so much passion and energy for helping people live healthier, more fulfilling lives! He brings heart to the company.

Success stories were pouring in from raving customers who loved Beachbody’s at home workouts. People lost weight, had more energy, and felt overall better. Beachbody Coaching began when they decided to pay customers to help other customers instead of selling the workouts to the big box stores. That’s how Beachbody Coaching began in 2007.

ABOUT THE WORKOUTS

Beachbody on Demand offers a wide variety of at home workouts for all different fitness levels. There is something for every age, fitness level and goal. Some workouts use equipment and others use your body weight. It’s an incredible value at $9.91 a month ($119 a year) to have a fitness pro right in your own living room! To put it into perspective, I originally purchased the P90X DVD program for about $119 in 2009. Now you can have ALL of the Beachbody workouts streaming on Beachbody on Demand for about the same price!

Here is a list of a few of the workouts I’ve completed:

1. P90X – One of the original at home workouts. Beachbody became famous from this program. It is a 90-day program that includes 12 workouts that focus on your legs, arms, core and total body. Each workout is about a hour. The yoga is 90 min. It is challenging, but the trainer, Tony Horton, is an excellent motivator who shares humor along the way to keep the audience motivated and engaged.

P90X workouts were longer, but several new versions were also created which are shorter in length (P90X 2, P90X3, P90).

2. INSANITY – This is a full-body fitness program from the super trainer, Shaun T. In this workout, high-intensity cardio intervals are included in this strength training program. Each workout also includes a longer stretch after the warm up. This is an intense workout which leaves you feeling ready to take on any challenge the rest of the day! The results from participation have helped transform so many individuals to have the best health ever throughout their lives.

Insanity transformed my body. I used Insanity to train for a 1/2 marathon after having all three of our babies (c-sections). I loved the intense warm up followed by the long stretch and then the intense cardio after. It is an intense workout, but I loved it because it lowered my stress and anxiety. I didn’t have any trouble running a 1/2 marathon after doing this workout!

3. TURBO FIRE – Designed by award-winning fitness expert, Chalene Johnson. It is a 90-day cardio workout program. It includes aerobic exercises, kickboxing routines, intense interval training, core and stretch workouts. The workouts range from 15 to 60 min. in length. Chalene is motivating, upbeat and encouraging all along the way!

Chalene Johnson is my all time favorite trainer. I love her positive attitude and upbeat comments throughout the workout. It took me a couple of weeks to learn the moves , but when learned the routine, I couldn’t get enough of the work out. Throughout the years, I have come back to this workout program when I felt the need for some uplifting motivation (with Beachbody on Demand, the workouts are always available)!

4. 21 DAY FIX – This program is a mix of weight training, cardio, yoga, and Pilates. There are seven base workouts that are designed to keep you moving and avoid injury. Each of these workouts are 30 min. long.

This program is great for those who are limited on time as each workout is only 30 minutes long. As you begin this program, you’ll discover the use of muscles you never knew existed which leaves you feeling sensational each day.

5. PIYO – Get an intense workout with Chalene Johnson without the jumps or weights. This is low-impact, yet high-intensity. This is perfect if you have bad knees, a bad back or you just want something without the impact.

I thought this program would be easy since it was a low-impact workout, but I was caught by surprise when I realized how much I burn in calories each day. It was intense! I gained strength and flexibility using this program.

6. LIIFT 4 – Joel Freeman, a former member of the Les Mills team created this program. This is an efficient, no-nonsense workout that combines weightlifting and calorie-burning high-intensity interval training (HIIT). The moves are based on classic lifting techniques that let you isolate, stabilize, and focus each rep on the muscle group you’re working. Every workout ends with a quick core workout. This program is only 4 days a week for 60 days.

This program helped me get defined abs (even after giving birth to 3 children)! Four workouts a week was great too. That gave me time to go running, biking or to a group fitness class. I loved the mix of weights, HIIT and core.

7. BARRE BLEND – It’s a fun fusion of ballet barre, Pilates, and cardio interval training. Feel the burn as you sweat, stretch and strengthen to energize your whole body with these low-impact workouts! You’ll love Elise’s positive energy!

Those two pound weights worked my arms! Elise’s positive attitude and energy is contagious throughout the program. It was uplifting and fun!

8. MORNING MELTDOWN 100 – Jericho McMatthews, a former member of the Les Mills team, created this program. These 20-30 min. workouts help you create a fun, motivating morning routine! 100 workouts! You can do one a day or do two together. The DJ plays fun music a long the way!

I loved the music in this program. Jericho brings the energy! The workouts were short, challenging and fun. The journal that was included was helpful to record my thoughts and feelings.

9. FIRE and FLOW – This is the first of it’s kind devoted to transforming your physical and mental well-being. Alternate high-intensity workout days with low-impact recovery days. This was great to help reduce stress, create a positive mindset after the pandemic, and fall in love with fitness! I loved the contrast of workouts.

This came at the perfect time. This program helped me mentally to work through the feelings and thoughts I had from the pandemic. It was a great mix of cardio and recovery workouts. It was a great mental break.

10. YOGA, STRETCH & MEDITATIONS – Yoga and meditations are included. Most of the stretch workouts are under 10 minutes.

I like doing the stretch workouts and meditations at night. They help me fall asleep. These are a great addition to Beachbody on Demand.

11. BIKE WORKOUTS – Beachbody started selling stationary bikes and workouts for the bikes in July 2021. They are comparable to the Peloton bikes.

The stationary bikes look fun. I am looking forward to buying my own. Stay tuned for a review when I have my own bike.

There is a lot to say about the workouts. There are pre and post natal workouts, kid’s workouts, Tai Chi, dance, weights, cardio, HIIT and more!

NUTRITION PROGRAMS
Beachbody’s nutrition programs are outstanding. It’s a healthy lifestyle, NOT a strict diet. Beachbody rejects the strict diet mentality. They encourage their customers to create a healthy lifestyle they can maintain long-term.

1. 2B MINDSET – Created by Iilana Mulhstien, a registered dietician. She created this program based on the success she had with her clients in her private practice, along with a program she taught at UCLA. This program helps you lose weight happily without feeling deprived or hungry. You don’t even need to exercise! Exercise is a bonus in this program. You don’t need to count calories or cut out food groups. It’s a mindset shift. This is a great program if you don’t want to be on a strict diet, and you like to eat a lot of food.

2. PORTION FIX – In this program you’ll learn the importance of achieving a healthy macronutrient balance of roughly 40 percent carbohydrates (yes! You still get carbs!), 30 percent protein, and 30 percent fat. This is a great program if you like a more structured approach. You measure your food in color coded containers to help you know exactly how much to eat and how often to eat it.

3. 4 WEEK GUT PROTOCOL – A comprehensive nutrition program that shows you how the food you eats impacts your gut health and overall health. A 4 week no-impact fitness program that goes a long with it. This is a great program to slow down, lower your stress and focus on your gut health.

4. ULTIMATE RESET – This is a 21-day process of eliminating certain foods and toxins from your diet, cleaning up your system, relaxing the nervous system, removing coffee and providing antioxidant support from your immune system. It is not an easy program, but it works well, and you’ll feel great after. I’ve done it at least six or seven times. It’s one of my favorite programs.

CONCLUSION

Overall, there is something for everyone on Beachbody on Demand at an affordable price. I’ve been using the workouts personally since January 2010, and I started coaching people through them in December 2011.

If you are looking for a program you can do at home or take with you to the gym, this is a great place to turn to. As I mentioned at the beginning, the biggest difference between Beachbody and other online programs is the personal coach you receive to guide you a long the way. The community is one of the most supportive I’ve seen. We encourage each other to live healthier and also support each other through life. That is priceless in my opinion.
